“What!?!? Coffee house and BBQ!?!?”
That was my initial reaction a few years ago when I first saw this place, and every time I drove or walked past it. A few months after it opened I decided to finally give it a try and I was pleasantly surprised. First off, yes, it’s a little weird but it somehow all works. Great coffee and surprisingly good food. The coffee prices are typical for a cafe´, and the food is pretty cheap. There’s seating for about twenty people inside, and a bench out front which is perfect on a nice day. There’s also a pretty good selection of board games to pass the time with some friends. Aloha Grinds is definitely a hidden gem.
This is truly, real Brooklyn Coffee. Roasted by one of the nicest Italian guys you’ll ever meet. Also, one of very few remaining old timer Brooklyn Italians that over the years have been leaving the community in droves. It’s good to see that there is still a little bit of the neighborhood I grew up in, left. Stop in and pick up a pound of deliciously roasted beans from a local master at a very reasonable price. Just don’t expect any fancy hipster ambiance, or hipster brand “irony”. This is a bare bones coffee roaster, and that’s all it needs to be. As a bonus, you’ll probably end up having an engaging conversation with the roaster who has a welcoming and great personality. He may even offer you some coffee.
